Dr. Alan J. Lipman, founder and director of Washington Psychotherapy, has provided individual, couples, and marital therapy since 1987.

Dr. Lipman has served as a professor at Georgetown University, Rutgers, and The George Washington University, is licensed in both Washington, D.C. and Maryland, and has also held positions at Yale Psychiatric Institute and The Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania.  He is author on 15 published articles in professional and peer-reviewed journals, and has served as Expert Psychology consultant for CNN, NBC Evening News, BBC, MSNBC, The Washington Post, and the Los Angeles Times, as an invited panel member for the Department of Health and Human Services, and as a consultant for the Department of State, among other organizations.

Dr. Lipman specializes in treating Relationship Problems and Difficulties, Communication Problems, Depression, Anxiety, Stress, and Life/Work Difficulties and Transitions. In addition he also helps attorneys with work, life, and relationship issues, and has been awarded the J.D. from Georgetown Law.

Dr. Lipman uses cognitive behavioral as well as modern problem solving and dynamic approaches, to create both genuine understanding and real change.  He has taught and lectured on his work nationally and internationally. The focus is on helping you to find understanding, relief, and most important, the results and changes that you are looking for.
